Red Ribbon Dress

Why it took me four months to sew a giant ribbon onto two layers of fabric? Read on.

Also: Creative titling game, I know.

Although this dress, which was probably inspired by the custom (and rejected) one James Holt made especially for Miranda Priestly in »The Devil Wears Prada«, began to come into being by February, I was able to complete it just the day before I hopped on the plane to Taiwan (click here for the first sneak peek). Why it took me four months to sew a giant ribbon onto two layers of fabric? Because I had to pause my private projects in order to work on the costumes for

my schools Drama Club. If the heatwave that has currently taken over the country ceases, I’ll hopefully be able to shoot an editorial with Celine next week, since the dress was custom made for her measurements and looks best when she’s wearing it. So I didn’t pick up that giant pile of red Indian silk until the last theatre performance was done. Sadly the photos aren’t the best quality (once again, haha) because the lighting was bad and I finally need to order a goddamn softbox, but

you have to put up with them for now. Though, I think I could capture the right spirit not least because there were 10 more meters of that fabric in my closet and I decided to build a verily extemporary scenery. Like, it was literally just 10 meters of silk thrown over my black backdrop and a also black chair. Necessity is the mother of invention. I’m going to bring my night shift – caused by internet connection problems – to an end now, before I spam you with more sayings… Good night!

  • What a bold red dress and the poses are all very intense and they made me pause to reflect on the mood you’re aiming to convey. I feel it’s strength and inner power. ;) Beautiful, as always!
